Ear Training Through Meditation Background Music- Part 1

As a Transcendental Meditation practitioner, I ran across something very helpful while trying to improve your musical ear training.

Hearing, recognizing and duplicating a pitch on your instrument is what we will be demonstrating.

Step 1.
Bring up this YouTube site-tep 1. Tibetan Meditation Music on your computer.

Step 2.
Sit comfortably in your favorite practice chair.
Play the first recording below and be aware of the instrument in the highest range. The instrument you will be following sounds much like a pan flute or a recorder.

Step 4.
As soon as you hear this instrument, attempt to match its pitch. Do not worry about the other instruments at this time for we will eventually get to that later.

Step 5.
Each time you hear the recorder, as quickly as possible match that note on your instrument.

Step 6.
Return to the You Tube site and practice for about ten minutes each day. Eventually you will be able to quickly recognize the pitch and duplicate it on your instrument.

Here are some examples to help you get started.

Original recording-

To illustrate this exercise, I have recorded a section of the music and have demonstrated the exercise of, as quickly as possible, matching the note with my instrument.

Example of matching single notes-

In our next post we will advance to the level of ecognizing two or more pitches at the same time.
