An Encouraging Response from The University Interscholastic League Solo and Ensemble Music Department

Shortly after my first post explaining the difficulty in submitting arrangements for approval and eventual inclusion into the UIL Solo Ensemble List of accepted material, I received this communication from Mr. Gabe Musella which I have included below…

Good morning, Dr. Chidester!

My name is Gabe Musella and I am the newly hired UIL Assistant Music Director. One of my main responsibilities is to develop and execute a timeline to review and update the instrumental and vocal solo and ensemble portions of the Prescribed Music List. As a fellow composer and 30 year veteran of the classroom, I share your interest and enthusiasm for this important curricular aspect of educating young musicians. I am currently formulating a plan and it is my sincere hope to unveil it during the month of September 2018. The official notification of this plan will appear on the UIL Website. Until then, I invite you to call me at your convenience on my cell to discuss your concerns. Please allow 24 hours to get back. Thank you for your interest in UIL!

Sincerely,

Gabe Musella, ASCAP

UIL Assistant Music Director

This is the first acceptable response I have received from UIL in more than four years.

I am impressed and as this communication states, the problem has been identified and actions to solve this situation seems to be in the works.

I would like to thank Mr. Musella for his kind and timely response and wish him the very best in improving this situation.

I look forward to his updates and will keep you all informed as they progress.
