Bruce was a member of the faculty at the University of Northern Iowa, School of Music in Cedar Falls from 1969 until his retirement in 1999. He has performed with many well-known entertainers such as Bob Hope, Jim Nabors, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Anita Bryant, Carman Cavalara, Victor Borgie, the Four Freshman, Blackstone the Magician, Bobby Vinton and John Davidson.

    It doesn’t really need a mouthpiece because it has multiple reeds inside and your vibrating lips don’t make the sound. They sound better without the mouthpiece and almost nobody plays them with one.
    The reeds and bells are similar to bike or car horns that sound by squeezing a rubber bulb. The valves do allow or stop air flow to different bells which causes different sounds to happen.

    This is sometimes called a Tyrolean multi belled bugle. They get some play with polka bands in Germany and are popular at October Fest. They come in different sizes soprano, alto, tenor and bass and make a raucous sound when played as a quartet.
    I have a 4 bell soprano (just for kicks).
