I take jazz guitar lessons and my instructor recommended the app iRealpro to me. It costs about $10 and I have found it very helpful for trumpet practice. I have tried a lot of different play along products and I like this one much better than all the others. The catalog is huge, and growing larger all the time. I use it from by Droid phone, but it also works from iPhones and iPads. I connect a small guitar amp to my phone when I use it.

Among its many features is that it tracks the music measure by measure, and you can select specific measures to repeat if you want to work on a particular passage. And it has all the standard features you would expect, such as transposing, changing rhythms and tempo.

Give it a look when you have a chance. I enjoy your blog.
